Awaji Island is said to be the oldest place in Japan where fragrant wood was introduced, and is the number one producer of incense and joss sticks in the country. Washi incense was born from the high level of technology of the industry.

The incense sticks are first made into sticks, then ground into powder in a stone mill used in soba restaurants. The powder is then mixed with kuzo (paper mulberry), the raw material for Japanese paper, and dried. Craftsmen then make each sheet individually.

Since you can enjoy the scent without lighting it, you can use it like a diffuser by placing it in your room, entrance or car, or attaching it to a letter.

The way the washi paper burns when it is burned gives it a different feel than stick incense.
